Gavel

This piece was designed for our friends at Dead Darlings for one of their art auctions.

For an event at Het Nieuwe Instituut (HNI), Rotterdam/NL which was held in 2005.

My piece 'Farewell Britannia' was auctioned off and the profits are going to the charity.

Farewell Britannia, is gavel made of two interlocking pieces of wood - British Ash and European Ash. They are held together by a bridal joint - a marriage of material that only functions when both pieces are locked together in a tight bond. However, the two parts can be separated with great determination and brute force.

An added feature of the design is two identical brass inlays in the head of the gavel (the EU part) acting as candleholders for two black candles to light in commiseration for your Brexit day ceremony.
